AGRICULTURAL SECTOR ON THE EVE OF INDEPENDENCE On the eve of independence India inherited a weak economy from the Britishers, which was predominantly agricultural . Most of the population lived in villages and was engaged in farming, animal husbandry and other agriculture related jobs.
